I can’t believe it’s already been over three years since we launched our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Celanese Connects.  I believe it has truly changed the culture and attitude here at Celanese.  It’s amazing what we can accomplish by coming together as one to make our communities a little better each day through programs like Global Impact Week, Celanese International Impact Program (CIIP) and our many volunteer efforts around the globe.

This is great, but how can we make an even bigger difference?   Seems like a difficult question considering the amount of time and effort we have put into our local communities over the past three years with over 25,000 volunteer hours contributed.  The answer? Creating  something much bigger than us.  Something that will be sustainable for many years to come.  Something that will continue to grow across all of our Celanese sites.

The solution – The Celanese Foundation.  You may have read the blog from our CEO, Mark Rohr earlier this year where he talked about how the foundation will change the face of Celanese.  The foundation will support all of our current efforts as well as fund many new ones that help to make life better for children and families in our local communities.

The best part about the foundation is that it’s run entirely by Celanese employees with oversight from the foundation board. With the development of local site committees, the selection of charities it funds is guided by employee interests.  There are also many other ways employees can get involved.  Later this year, there will be a matching gift program where the Celanese Foundation will match employee donations to any 501c3 organization of their choice.  In addition, there will be a volunteer program that will match employee volunteer hours with dollars to the recipient organization.  We inaugurated the foundation in Dallas, TX and will continue to establish it at other Celanese sites around the world over the next several years.

So what does this mean for you? If you are a Celanese employee, it means that you will have a say in where our funds go in your local community and can actively participate in all the foundation programs.  If you are a non-profit organization, it means that you can apply for gifts later this year so you can help carry out the charter and focus of the Celanese Foundation.  If you are any other person who has stopped to read this blog and found it to be of interest, I hope that you will stay tuned for much more to come.
