Every September Celanese is inspired by the collective efforts of our employees who make a difference during Global Impact Month. This year 36 sites participated, including 2,495 employees, who organized 3,503 projects and logged 32,102 volunteer hours. That brings our year to date total to 112,932 hours! Thanks to everyone who participated! It’s great to see our people in the community demonstrating our company value of Improving the World.
Listening As An Ally Through Email
Every day we take in a lot of information, especially when it comes to our email. So how do you tackle active listening when reading and responding to email? Recently I received an email request that wasn’t clear to me. It could have been the note itself, or the fact that it was a Friday morning and my coffee hadn’t kicked in yet. I paused and reread it and it still wasn’t clear. There was something missing and I didn’t know what, so I reached out to my colleague. When she had a moment, she came over and we had a quick in-person chat. She helped clarify and I was able to successfully execute on the task. Success!

A Storyteller’s Gem–Celebrating Five Years of the CE-Blog
I recently attended a social media conference to learn new trends, to connect with communication peers and to leave inspired and refreshed. As a communicator, the emphasis on transparency and social storytelling affirmed Celanese’s communications strategy to have a consistent and authentic voice.
The CE-Blog came to my mind several times over the course of the conference, especially when one speaker shared how to unearth the spirit of a brand through storytelling. She was talking about how a brand’s mission is its story. The more she talked, I couldn’t help but think how great it has been for our company to have created a space to give our employees a voice to our customers, our communities, our teams. This blog has helped to pave the way for our company to build the culture we have today. It speaks to our company values and has been a place where we’ve tackled challenges and shared about the people and the causes we’re most passionate about.

Email was one of the first forms of communications on the internet, and as the technology has evolved over the last two decades so has how we access that email. Celanese, much like many corporations, has continued to evolve with ways in which we access email, traditionally with Outlook on our computers, but furthering that to BlackBerry. And now, with Bring Your Own Device program we expand that to include smartphones and tablets as well. Our customers have followed the same trends, so how we approach communications to those customers has to adapt as well.

Walk for Wishes: A Family Outing
This time last year, moving trucks were relocating 300 employees to Las Colinas. However, my son and I were busy doing more important things, participating in the 2012 Walk for Wishes 5K. I was thrilled to participate recently in two Junior Achievement teaching days with my Celanese colleagues Gretchen Rosswurm and Phil McDivitt as we co-taught a kindergarten and a third grade class at MC Lively Elementary in Irving, Texas.
